HowStuffWorks: "How New York Works: New York City Guide"

How New York Works: New York City Guide - by Christiane Bird

Am I a Drama Queen? How Virgo am I?

Am I a Drama Queen?

You Are a Drama Princess (or Prince)

You're not over the top dramatic, but you have your moments.
You know how to steal the spotlight...
And how to act out to get your way.

People around you know that you're good for a laugh.
But at times, your drama gets a bit too much for everyone.
Tone it down a tad, and you'll still be the center of attention.

Really? I never thought that I am a drama princess... I'd like to think I'm not.. But I guess lately - maybe I am a little. Need to put a break to it!

How Virgo am I? According to Blogthings ...

You are 53% Virgo

and to finish off... some inspiration for myself...

"You have achieved success if you have lived well, laughed often and loved much."

A very enjoyable weekend...

First of all, I'd like to congratulate Margaretha and Sammy for their wedding on the 6th July 2007.
And... to Charley and Diana for their wedding on the 7th July 2007.
It's been a bit like that lately.. People getting married; people having babies... Mmm.. I should rephrase.. It might have always been like that - but lately; the people are my friends... people I know... some of them quite well too... Does that indicate something?

Finally tried Body Attack at Fitness First today - it was A LOT OF FUN!!! Seriously! The first cardio class which I really enjoy.. There was a lot of jumping and running but I really enjoyed it!!! Definitely going back for more... (in hope doing that class together with Body Pump will get me somewhat nearer to healthier body :P)

Chatted with Pipi today too.. somewhere in between all of these activities - couldn't stop laughing from her stupid jokes (As long as it doesn't turn real *touch wood* i'm good) ! :) miss you lots, pi!!!

Met one of my old friend today; Airine. Haven't seen her since last year. It was fun catching up with her for a little bit... She's been studying in London for the past year.. Sounds like she's having lots of fun - travelling a bit around Europe. Have to make sure I get to visit Europe sometime between now and June next year - while accommodation is still free :P Anyway - went browsing around the city - all the clothes are screaming at me saying "Buy me..." with their red tags... So many pretty dresses. Pretty shirts. Pretty tops. It seems to me that everything is on sale.. But, I stayed strong and refused to even try them on! :P HAHAHA.. Have to say I did quite well.

As the reward, I get to go to Karaoke. LOTS OF FUN!!! Lots of singing + Lots of jumping in Body Attack - now I'm fully relaxed and all set to fly away to dream land... :)

I've decided to appreciate myself more. I need to learn to know my own strengths and weaknesses. I need to learn to be less bias. ^.^ I want to start liking myself more :) because that way - it makes it even easier to be happy and stay happy :) and happiness.. is my goal!

Recover

If, at some point, your day gets pushed in a negative direction, it doesn't have to stay that way. You can quickly and completely recover.

The distractions and disruptions will surely come along. Yet you do not have to let any of them ruin your whole day.

There's never any need to wait until tomorrow to make a fresh start. Instead, you can choose to immediately let go of whatever has thrown you off course.

You can decide to begin moving forward again right away. Keep in mind that the number of times you fall is not nearly as important as how quickly you get back up.

Don't allow an isolated frustration, disappointment or change in plans to turn into a whole day's worth of negative momentum. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, you can be moving forward.

Recover quickly, get back up and get going again with renewed determination. Nothing will be able to hold you back for long.

Do people just fall out of love?

I don't think so... and iVillage agrees with me :P

Here's what iVillage says ...

People just fall out of love. True or False?
Your Answer: False
Correct!
Some people believe that they need to divorce their spouses because they've fallen out of love. First of all, people don't just fall out of love. If love dwindles, it's because the marriage wasn't a priority. The number-one cause for the breakdown in marriages in our country is that people don't spend enough time together. They take their spouse and their marriage for granted. Work, kids and other obligations become more important than spending time together. When this happens, during the little time people do spend together, they end up fighting. This distance and alienation sometimes fool people into thinking they've fallen out of love.

Second, love isn't just a feeling. It's a decision. Happily married people understand that if they engage in activities that bring love into the marriage, they will feel loving. There is no major mystery here. You both decide on a daily basis whether you're going to spend time together regularly or do your own thing, forgive each other or hold grudges, accept each other's weaknesses or point fingers of blame, apologize when in error or smugly stand your ground, be generous and giving or put your own needs first.

Of course, we're all human and our ability to be loving and kind to each other ebbs and flows, as do our feelings for our partners. However, wise people don't allow negative feelings or the absence of loving feelings to make them question their commitment to their spouses. They just understand that they're going through a rough time and that soon, they will decide to do what it takes to evoke feelings of love again, in themselves and in their spouses.

iGoogle Quote of the Day - 2nd July 2007

No one means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean,
for words are slippery and thought is viscous.
- Henry Adams

... says iGoogle's Quote of the Day on the 2nd July 2007.

How odd is it that I've been thinking about this a lot lately?

I'm the kind of person who 'sometimes' say things that it's not 100% true.
Let's just say, it's not extremely difficult for me to 'white-lie' a little.
Not that I'm a liar or anything - I normally say things as it is; but with certain people; I have tendency of sugar-coating things.

I have the tendency of saying that I want something when I actually want something else.
Sometimes, I want something but I don't want to have to say that I want that thing just in case I don't get it; or so that, when I get it, I don't feel that I get it because they pity me and gave it to me.
So, instead I'll say that I don't want it; but I actually really wanted it.
But when I say I don't want it; I'm worried that if I say I don't want it; I won't get it...
*Sigh* MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY! :P

Also, in terms of using the right word for the right thing..
It has never been a problem to me; until recently...

I've been feeling very strongly about some things; and because I've been throwing away some words that meant to describe these feelings; I don't feel that these words are qualified to express the feelings that I'm having...
I'm having difficulties finding the correct 'word' or 'expression' that could quantify how I feel. Quantify is not the right word either. I mean qualify, maybe? I'm in search for the right word.

Anyway - back to the quote; the question is, how do I know who actually meant what they say?
And, if I think incorrectly of what they meant when they say something; what do they actually meant to say?

Communication can be very tricky sometimes - don't you think?
How I wish all of this can be simplified?
How I wish I could go back to those days when I say what I meant and people just think "oh... she's such a cute blunt and honest kid..." :P

They (Sharks) are very cool.

I can't help but think how lonely it is to live a life like theirs though. I mean, being always alone.

i-google vs my-yahoo

Lately, My Yahoo! has been playing up a bit on me. It wouldn't show my mail properly, which has kinda defeated its main purpose to me. I love that I can see my emails and my RSS feeds together. What's a girl to do but to start looking and comparing with other available facility? :)

So... Since I've been considering to switch to iGoogle for a while anyway, I thought I'll give it a go.

The look:
iGoogle

My Yahoo!

They have different kind of look. I like iGoogle's theme's title bar... The city colour changes according to your time zone which is simply smart to me :) But I like My Yahoo! smaller fonts and flexibility in the width of the contents. Maybe iGoogle just hasn't evolved as much. Though, come to think about it, no new My Yahoo! theme has been added as of last year or maybe two years ago?

Talking about flexibility, I really like how I can add my Yahoo! mail on my iGoogle page. It really saves a lot of hassle. And as with any other Google tools, a lot of people have customised things and made them available for use. Which is extremely cool.

I have to say.. I could definitely use a better RSS feed preview function in iGoogle. I think My Yahoo definitely score a point there.
But.... the Google Map Search is such a cool tool!!! Double points there :P
Love the integration of Google Bookmarks with Firefox. I don't have to add bookmarks to my browser as well as my yahoo again. Another double points!

All in all, iGoogle has done really well in terms of the usability and the customise-ability... Hopefully they'll either modify the font size or let me do it soon!!!
The fact that most of the services that I use are provided by google nowadays (blogger, gmail, google talk, google???), makes me lean towards sticking with iGoogle.. At least for a little while. Change the font size!!! :P

The End of Veronica Mars (the series)???

I just finished watching episode 20 of the third season of the Veronica Mars series. @#!#!$!@#!%!#!@

Chai, a friend at work, told me couple months ago that it looks like the series is going to be axed, which is not a good news at all to me; but to stop it in the middle??? THAT IS JUST PLAIN CRUEL!!!
Have confirmed it through Wikipedia and couple other sites...

ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH TAIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!! (translate: SH*TTTTT!!!!)
Booooooooooo... Wushaaaa... Breath.... :P

Now, who's going to tell me what happened to Piz and Veronica? I want to see Veronica back with Logan!!! What's going to happen with Navarro??? What about the stupid and annoying castle that's led by Jack Kane??? What bout the voting? What about Sheriff Mars? When will I get to see such a lovely relationship between a father and a daughter ever again?

!!!!

Booooooo booooo!!!
Anyway - I better take my rant somewhere else.

Ciao!!!

The Easy Way Out

Avoiding effort is more difficult than just going ahead and getting it done. Because not only do you spend time and energy avoiding the effort, you also must suffer the consequences of failing to do the work.

Take the time to do what must be done. Don't get caught up in making judgments about whether it is easy or difficult, pleasant or unpleasant, for that will just hold you back.

If you're interested in finding the easiest way out, consider this. The easiest way is to just go ahead and get it done.

Is there something you've been avoiding because it will require too much effort? Is there really anything at all that you've gained by putting it off?

Imagine the sense of satisfaction and release that you'll enjoy when the task is completed. Think of how great it will be when you're no longer constantly dreading it.

Then get busy and get it done. Make the effort, finish the work, and you'll find that you've truly taken the easy way out.

A great reminder for myself...
